DARUDE’S SANDSTORM 2026 BRINGS GLOBAL FANS TOGETHER FOR AN UNFORGETTABLE SECOND EDITION

Darude’s Sandstorm Run 2026 has officially wrapped in Helsinki, bringing together 1,100 participants from 35 countries to Kaivopuisto Park on Saturday 29th August, for a unique celebration of music, movement and one of dance music’s most recognisable tracks.

Now in its second year, the event saw runners take on a 7km route past locations from the original 2000 Sandstorm music video, finishing straight into an open-air electronic music celebration, MC’d by Jaakko Manninen, artist, music video director, and long-term collaborator of Darude.

Fans once again embraced Sandstorm’s visual culture for the costume competition. 25 Swedish runners dressed as desert-dwelling people, known as The Fremen in Frank Herbert’s Dune, representing the sandstorm itself, whilst friends from Paris wore custom-made ‘du du du’ t-shirts inspired by the track’s iconic melody. Of course, no shortage of the red gilets and silver briefcase attire from the music video itself.

After a warm-up hosted by Finnish Gym partner TFW Helsinki, all 1,100 attendees rallied at the start line, embarking on the city route with selfie stops at the most recognisable locations from the 2000 music video, including Helsinki Cathedral.

After a warm-up from gym partner TFW Helsinki, all 1,100 runners set off on the route, pausing for selfies at landmarks including Helsinki Cathedral. London DJ/producer Lau.ra soundtracked the finish line, where a fan from New Zealand took first place, later collecting the winner’s silver briefcase on stage, presented by Darude himself. Darude then played a high-energy DJ set featuring custom STORM 25 remixes of ‘Feel The Beat’ and ‘Sandstorm’, with local DJ Rony Rex closing out the event.

Launched in 2025 as part of Darude’s STORM 25 World Tour, the Sandstorm Run has grown fast: from 856 runners across 17 countries in its debut year to 1,100 runners across 35 countries in 2026, with fans travelling from Europe, the USA and as far as Australia.

“What a day! Thank you to everyone who ran, dressed up, danced, and everyone who made the trip out here; my mind is still blown by how far people travelled to take part! You guys make the run what it is, and I can’t wait to do it all over again next year.” – Darude.

More than two decades after its release, Sandstorm continues to create new experiences for fans around the world. Released in 1999, the track became a global phenomenon and has since amassed more than one billion streams. Over the years, Darude remains a respected name, producing five studio albums, performing at major global festivals and clubs, and founding his own Vibing Out record label and creative hub.

The annual Sandstorm Run gives fans a physical way to connect with that legacy: running past Helsinki’s original filming locations before a concert finale in a day built entirely around music, movement and community.
