Alessia Labate – Urban Rebel PR Interview

Italian artist and songwriter Alessia Labate began her career at 12 on national TV, later competing on The Voice of Italy while honing her craft at Mogol’s CET songwriting school. Since signing with New York management firm ADESSO in 2019, she has built an international profile in electronic music with releases and collaborations across STMPD, Smash The House, DIMMAK and more. Her catalogue includes standout cuts with Like Mike and Armin van Buuren, surpassing 7 million Spotify streams, alongside major live moments from ADE and Milan Pride to Nameless Festival. Alongside her solo career, she is co-founder of Seven Songs, a global writing camp platform connecting creatives from Los Angeles to Ibiza.

Following the success of her latest single, ‘Not Home’, we caught up with Alessia to learn more.

You’re an incredibly versatile songwriter. What are your main inspirations behind your lyrics?

My biggest inspiration is real life. My own experiences, the people around me, conversations that stay with me, and emotions that feel too big to ignore. Writing is very visceral for me. If something moves me deeply, whether it’s joy, heartbreak, confusion, or growth, it eventually turns into a song. I’m very sensitive, so I feel things intensely, and lyrics are my way of processing that intensity.

Are there any rituals or a routine you get into to get in the right mindset for writing?

Starting with a good vocal warm-up really helps me settle into my body and calm my anxiety down. It grounds me. Once I feel physically present and connected to my breath, I can write more freely. Sometimes I also like to talk for a while before writing, especially in sessions. Sharing stories and finding emotional common ground makes the process much more natural.

Please tell us about your latest collaboration with Alan Walker, ‘Not Home,’ and how the collaboration came about.

I was in Calabria when I received an email from Alan Walker’s team saying they were looking for a vocalist for Not Home and thought of me. I recorded a demo almost immediately, and within a few days, we finalised the track. It was a very smooth and aligned process. What I loved about the song is that it leans into emotion rather than just energy. It allowed me to explore vulnerability in a very honest way, and that’s where I feel most at home as a singer.

How does it feel to have the song go to number 1 in China and over two million streams on Spotify?

It feels unreal, to be honest. I can’t fully grasp it because China feels so far away, almost like another world. Not Home is the fastest-growing song I’ve had on Spotify, and it definitely set a very high standard for me. Now my goal is to have another song reach that milestone just as fast. At the same time, I try not to give too much importance to numbers. They’re amazing, and I’m grateful, but what really matters to me is the emotional connection.

⁠Do you have any live shows lined up for 2026, and will you be joining Alan Walker on stage at some point?

I just performed at Nameless Winter with my friend Conrad Taylor, which was such a special moment. As for the future… who knows? Something is definitely brewing. I can’t say too much yet, but I’m very excited. Follow me on social media to stay updated when new live shows are announced.

If you cast your mind back to your days on The Voice, but this time you’re in the red chair, do you think you’d lean more towards choosing dance vocalists to mentor, or would you branch out to other styles of vocalists?

I would follow my heart and bet on true talent, no matter the genre. For me, authenticity and emotional delivery matter more than style. If someone moves me, I’m turning my chair.

⁠After working with international dance heavyweights such as Like Mike and Alan Walker, who is next in your line-up of artists to collaborate with?

My next dream collaboration to tick off my list is Martin Garrix. I feel like we’re getting closer and closer. He already plays my music in his sets, so I’m hopeful the stars will align soon.

⁠What’s next for Alessia Labate? Where do you see yourself by the end of 2027?

I see myself having released my own album by then. I imagine it as a crossover between my favourite subgenres of electronic dance music and pop. That’s a dream that keeps me going. I want it to feel cohesive but still reflect all the emotional shades that are part of who I am.

And finally, if there was one song that you’d blast from your bedroom speakers when no one is home, what would it be?

Probably Clarity by Zedd. It ticks all the boxes for me: emotion, powerful vocals, euphoric production. It’s the perfect blend of pop and dance, and it still gives me chills.
