Alure – Urban Rebel PR Interview

EDC Mexico 2025 is fast approaching and one name that stands out from this year’s colossal line-up is Alure. The Mexico City resident, once a professional soccer player turned DJ/producer is set to hit the stage this Sunday 23rd February for an epic back-to-back set with Daniel Etienne.

A bubbling name outside of his homeland, Alure has gained support from industry heavy-weights Martin Garrix, Nicky Romero, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Oliver Heldens. Plus signings to Smash The House and Helpdeep. For impassioned music-lover Alure, the career milestones continue to get bigger and bigger. Last year, he opened for Swedish House Mafia at Estadio Azteca, and in July 2025 Alure will make his anticipated Tomorrowland debut in Boom, Belgium.

Now is your chance to get behind one of dance music’s most exciting upcomers as we put UR 10 Questions to Alure.

1.How did you get into DJing?

I started DJing when I was about 14 years old, around the time EDM was rapidly gaining popularity. Artists like Hardwell, Swedish House Mafia, and Avicii were becoming household names, and I was completely immersed in the genre. I spent hours listening to EDM playlists of all styles and watching every Ultra and Tomorrowland set I could find. Over time, my passion grew, and I decided I wanted to learn how to mix and become a DJ myself.

2.As a DJ, how would you describe your sound/energy behind the decks?

I let the music and transitions speak for themselves. I love dancing and singing along to the tracks I play, but I’m not the kind of DJ who frequently gets on the microphone to engage with the crowd verbally. Instead, I focus on my song selection and mixing, allowing the energy of the set to build organically and drive the atmosphere on the dance floor.

3. What equipment do you prefer to use, and why?

My preferred setup includes the CDJ-3000 players and the DJM-A9 mixer. I love the CDJ-3000s for their large display, hot cue button placement, and fast-track loading. As for the DJM-A9, its enhanced sound card, improved filter/FX lock-in feature, and more spacious EQ layout make it a significant upgrade from its predecessor, the DJM-900NXS2.

4.What is your experience in this industry and background?

Before becoming a DJ and producer, I learned to play multiple instruments, including guitar and drums. This musical foundation, combined with my passion for electronic music, led me to explore mixing and music production. In terms on industry experience, I truly began to understand the business once I started performing and releasing my own tracks. The music industry is incredibly competitive, but you will be very successful if you know how to navigate it, build the right connections and, most importantly, stay persistent.

5.Outside of music, what other passions do you have/ how do you enjoy spending your time?

I dedicate about 90% of my time to music – whether it’s producing new tracks, reaching out to labels, or performing. However, I also have a few other passions that keep me balanced. I read every morning, play football and golf, and make time for the gym. Staying physically active has a direct impact on my creativity, energy, and overall performance, both in the studio and on stage.

6.Who would be your dream guests to join you on a one-off podcast special?

I’d have to say Lionel Messi. Even though he isn’t involved in music, I’d love to hear how he overcame the challenges in his childhood and throughout his career. I believe his mental strength is a huge part of his success, and mental resilience is just as crucial in the music industry. Artists constantly deal with creative blocks, rejection from gigs, labels, and even fans. It’s also a career that requires significant risk, especially in the early stages when financial returns are minimal. Learning how to stay focused, positive, and motivated from someone who has achieved it all would be incredibly inspiring.

7.How do you choose the tracks you play during a set?

There are a few key factors I always consider:

• Venue: Where am I playing?
• Time & Set Length: What time is my set, and how long will I be playing?
• Previous DJ: Who is playing before me?

Once I have this information, I create a folder in Rekordbox with different potential “avenues” I can take during my set. Even though I produce Tech House, I enjoy playing across multiple genres, ensuring that I can read the crowd and create the best experience possible.

8.What is the best DJ set you’ve seen this year/ever and why was it so memorable?

Since we’re only in February I haven’t seen a lot of performances this year, but just last week Oliver Heldens invited me to his DLDK show here in Madrid and it was a fantastic set. I thought it was so good because he really surprised me with his song selection. He ended his set with Hard Techno and Drum and Bass, which are genres I don’t typically associate Oliver with. This just goes to show that as a DJ you always have to explore different styles and be able to adapt to any crowd and show no matter how big of an act you are or how many years you’ve been in the industry for. Shout out to Oliver for being such a nice person and an inspiration to me.

As for my all-time favorite set would have to be Avicii at Ultra 2016. Watching him perform his final set before taking a break from touring was an unforgettable experience. I was in Miami with a group of friends, and witnessing him play both my favorite tracks and unreleased songs was absolutely mind-blowing. It also reinforced an important lesson for me as a DJ—you don’t need to be on the microphone shouting or jumping off the decks to energize a crowd. Avicii always let the music speak for itself, and that’s what made him truly legendary.

9.Which two artists would you most love to witness collaborate on a song?

Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of Max Styler and Odd Mob. A collaboration between them would be massive and a track I’d love to play live.

10.Finally, what’s your plans for this year?

-It’s hard to predict exactly what this year will bring, as I’m still finalizing music releases and negotiating gigs. However, I can confirm that next week, I’ll be heading to Mexico City to perform a B2B set with my good friend and fellow DJ/producer Daniel Etienne at EDC Mexico. Later this year, I’m also making my debut at Tomorrowland—I’ll be playing on the Melodia Stage on the first Friday of the festival, which is a huge milestone for me! I’m excited for everything that’s to come, and will keep everyone updated of new song releases and gigs on my social media profiles.
