Amy Louise – Urban Rebel PR Interview
Amy Louise is a Glasgow based Pop/Dance Singer-Songwriter and has quickly made a name for herself in the Scottish Music Scene. She’s played shows at the likes of New Year Revolution Festival, as well as various shows around Glasgow and London. She has been working on new music and her live shows, notably her new single ‘Enemy’ which she’s releasing on the 19th June!
We spoke spoke to Amy Louise to catch up on what she’s been up to since we last spoke to her and to find out more about her release.
Q: Lovely to chat with you again! Aside from writing fabulous music, what’s been happening in the world of Amy Louise lately?
Amy Louise: The world of Amy Louise has been busy with performances, collaborations and recording in the studio! I kicked this year off with a support gig at King Tuts followed by my second gig in London and not long after that, travelled to Berlin to work with a couple of musicians on a project that’s in the works for the end of this year! Since then, I’ve performed at gigs in Glasgow and local festivals and was featured as BBC Introducing Scotland’s ‘Track of the Week’ with my new single ‘Enemy’
Q: You’ve got a new release, Enemy, arriving on June 19th. What can listeners expect from the track, and what inspired the song’s message and story?
Amy Louise: Listeners can expect to feel a dreamy energy, the urge to dance and a freeing sense of emotion! The message behind ‘Enemy’ is inspired by the feeling of acceptance. The idea of a person going from being your everything to portraying you as their enemy and the realisation that the version you thought you knew, never really existed. It’s a deep song behind the dance beat and is really about not letting someone else’s perception of you define your life… “I’ll be your enemy, if that’s how you sleep at night” ie, I’m moving on and you can paint me out to be the enemy if that’s what you want to believe!
Q: The title Enemy is intriguing. When it comes to your creative process, what do you consider to be the biggest ‘enemy’ to making music, and how do you overcome it?
Amy Louise: I’d say my biggest ‘enemy’ in creating music is being hard on myself and being a bit of a perfectionist (maybe more than a bit!!) I’ve definitely got better with giving myself a break when things feel overwhelming or taking a step back with writers’ block but I’d definitely still say there are days when things can feel overwhelming and at the same time feel like you’re not doing enough! The thing that helps me overcome it is reminding myself why I started writing music and giving myself a bit of a rest when there’s lots going on!
Q: You’ve already played some fantastic shows in Glasgow this year. Where else can fans catch you performing over the summer?
Amy Louise: I’ll be performing in Glasgow again on the 2nd of July at Audio which I’m really excited for! Audio was the first Glasgow gig I ever did, 3 years ago and so much has changed since then! So it feels like a full circle moment to be back and to have fans that are buying tickets to come along this time, is amazing! I’ll also be debuting ‘Enemy’ live at this show, so it’s definitely one not to be missed!
Q: Your live performances are centred around your piano playing and vocals. Have you considered expanding your live setup in the future? If so, what instruments, production elements, or additional musicians would you love to bring into the mix?
Amy Louise: Yes! I’d absolutely love to do a full production show in the future, with programmed lighting for each song and have a proper theatrical stage production, which will hopefully be a possibility for a future headline show! At the moment I perform by myself with tracks as well as playing keys and have choreography for a couple of songs, so it would be amazing to have backing dancers one day! But a definite next step to enhance the live shows is dramatic lighting and stage design and I’d love to have a couple live musicians too!
Q: You recently performed alongside Skye Newman. How was that experience, and in what ways does she inspire you as a songwriter and artist?
Amy Louise: Singing with Skye was the most surreal and incredible experience! It all happened so quickly from asking if I could sing with her at her VIP soundcheck, which I luckily won through a competition with Columbia Records, to standing backstage with her, her band and team, waiting to go on stage to sing with her. It was insane and although I was so nervous, I had so much fun on stage! To perform not only with Skye but to a sold out crowd at the 02 Academy in Glasgow is definitely a moment I’ll always remember. She gave me some amazing advice about being an artist and I think the thing that inspires me most about her is how honest she is in her music and how genuine she is, not only as an artist but as a person. She’s a real girls girl and a true inspiration for women and other artists to stay true to yourself and believe in yourself!
Q: Looking beyond Skye Newman, if you could choose any artist or band to tour with, who would be your dream collaborator and why?
Amy Louise: My dream artist to tour with is Becky Hill! I’m very inspired musically by Becky Hill, as she has written massive dance tracks as well as piano ballads and can do it all! In my opinion she’s one of the best female dance vocalists/artists and she has always been an artist I’d absolutely love to support or collab with!
Q: We last interviewed you in 2025. Since then, how have you seen the Scottish music scene evolve, and which emerging Scottish artists are you particularly excited about right now?
Amy Louise: I think the Scottish music scene has grown a lot just within the year! There’s so much good music coming out of Scotland at the moment and the scene has got a lot stronger! At the moment I’m really loving the Valtos, I think what they’re doing with mixing dance music and traditional Scottish music is so cool!
Q: Your visual identity is incredibly distinctive. How do you approach artist branding, and what’s the story behind the ethereal, dream-like aesthetic reflected in your outfits and makeup?
Amy Louise: The ethereal aesthetic started with a few sparkles and led to me enhancing my outfits a little more by adding extra accessories and I guess started to become a bit of a signature statement! It also helped me with performance nerves to almost create a character and world for ‘Amy Louise’ and my music and let people be a part of that world! I always envision a colour for my songs and feel like a common theme in my music, whether it’s a dance track or a ballad, is a dreamy vocal or dream like instrumentation. I like to make my promotion just as creative and honest as my lyrics!
Q: Finally, what’s next for Amy Louise? Can you give us a glimpse of what fans can look forward to the second half of 2026?
Amy Louise: I’ve been working on lots of new music for release this year and next year! Plans are in the works for another headline show and hopes for an EP next year too, so lots of exciting things on the way!
