Criminal Sounds – Urban Rebel PR Interview

We sat down with Mexican masked duo The Criminal Sounds, fresh off the release of their third single ‘This Is What We Do’ under their modernised moniker. With tracks like ‘Lately’ and ‘All About You’ already under their belt under this alias, the Mexican selectors aim to carry on the momentum into the new year with support on the new track from Don Diablo, Swanky Tunes, Tujamo and more.

1. As a DJ duo, how would you describe your sound/energy behind the decks?

Our music is energetic, danceable and contagious. We seek to create a groove that invites people to dance or, even that you can drive around and sing at full volume.

2. Is there one song/album or artist from your teenage years which stands out?

We grew up immersed in the era of EDM and Progressive House, where epic melodies and textured sounds were the protagonists, inviting you to jump and dance non-stop. Artists like Swedish House Mafia, Dannic and Vicetone were a great inspiration for the birth of our joint project.

3. Outside of music, what other passions do you have/ how do you enjoy spending your time?

In addition to the project, we have a holding of companies dedicated 100% to music. We produce concerts, we book great artists for our own festivals among other things. We live by and for music.

4. What’s on your bucket list as artists?

We have many aspirations, playing on the main stages of big festivals is certainly something we dreamed of since we were kids, however right now we are structuring our conceptual solo show in harmony with a lot of new music to be able to take it to the whole world, no matter if it is a venue of 300 or 20 thousand people, creating our own ecosystem and that the public loves it is our biggest bucket list, the awards and Main Stages will come later.

5. Who would be your dream guests to join you on a one-off podcast special?

If we could choose three guests for a special podcast, it would be Skrillex, Armin Van Buuren or Carl Cox. Although their musical universes are very different, it would be fascinating to get to know their perspectives on music in a face-to-face conversation.

6. What’s your best motivational tip for getting things done?

Visualising dreams fulfilled is always a good driver of inspiration, however dreaming of filling Madison Square Garden in New York, or some European arena without releasing music might be very unlikely to happen. The key is to plan and structure our goals in a practical way. We focus on short-term, achievable goals, which allows us to move forward steadily without losing our way.

7. What is the best DJ set you’ve seen this year/ever and why was it so memorable?

Uff, a very difficult question, there are so many dj sets that it would be very difficult to choose one. But speaking of this year, we invited James Hype to one of our festivals in Mexico and wow, a real show at the Players.

8. Which two artists would you most love to witness collaborate on a song?

Fred Again & Rufus Du Sol, imagine how insane that would be!

9. It’s the last party on earth; the crowd are shouting, “One more tune”. What track do you play as your encore finale?

It’s not out yet, but one of the tracks we recently finished, called “I See You”, would fit perfectly in this situation. It’s an emotional and energetic song.

10. Finally, what are you most looking forward to in 2025?

We are 100% focused on our new releases, and we are also starting to structure our conceptual solo show. However, any opportunity that arises will be welcome.
