Mentum – Urban Rebel PR Interview

DJ and producer duo Mentum are firming themselves as one of the Nordic dance scene’s most exciting breakout stories. Formed of Tim Terkelsen and Finn Eriksrud, the pair have amassed tens of millions of streams, while earning DJ support from heavyweight tastemakers including David Guetta, R3HAB and The Chainsmokers. Mentum now step into 2026 not as newcomers chasing a viral moment, but as seasoned musical creators entering their most definitive era yet.

We caught up with Mentum on their new release ‘Breathe’, their production process and their creative influences.

  1. Tell us a little bit more about your new single, ‘Breathe’. What was the inspiration behind the production?

‘Breathe’ started with a specific feeling: that singular moment on a dancefloor where everything pauses just before an explosion. We began with a simple vocal melody and built the production outward, focusing heavily on tension to ensure the drop feels “earned”. It’s about that contrast between calm and chaos – a release of tension that sums up the track’s energy.

  1. You both describe your music as having ‘mainstage power’. What other artists do you think are killing it at the moment?

We’ve been lucky to work with heavyweights like R3HAB and Gabry Ponte, who are masters at translating a specific vibe into a massive club anthem. We are always inspired by artists who maintain high technical efficiency while staying authentic to their sound.

  1. Away from all the DJing and producing, what do you do to ‘Breathe’ and relax?

Honestly, we are both workaholics; if we’re not behind the decks or in the studio, we’re handling content, admin, or networking. However, we find balance through different lenses: Tim is inspired by visuals like architecture and photography, while Finn explores psychology and cultural trends. Sometimes, just being in a new city and observing a different culture is the best way to reset.

  1. Walk me through your wind-down from a hectic weekend of shows.

After an intensive weekend, we focus on the small, manageable tasks to avoid being overwhelmed by the big picture. We stay disciplined with our work ethic, but value that “introspective rush” you get after a show. It’s about finding stillness after the noise, much like the atmosphere we created in ‘Breathe’.

  1. You’ve got some really funky single covers, from skateboarding to a colourful chocolate bar. What is your creative process behind them?

Because we’ve handled almost everything in-house, our visual identity is a direct extension of our musical journey. We’ve explored everything from R&B and Indie-Pop to Electro House and EDM under the Mentum umbrella, and that diversity naturally bleeds into our visual expression.

  1. What is the best DJ set you’ve seen this year/ever and why was it so memorable?

Experiencing Swedish House Mafia on their Paradise Again World Tour in Oslo (2022) was epic. Their ability to engage a crowd with such a mature sound and well-executed visual identity is incredible. Seeing them again at Creamfields last year was another highlight. We also have to mention John Mayer’s The Search for Everything tour in 2017 – his performance and talent were just world-class.

  1. What’s on your bucket list as an artist?

Playing major festivals like Tomorrowland, UMF Miami, Coachella, and Burning Man is definitely on the list, as is touring global club circuits. We’re also working hard toward a spot on 1001Tracklists’ ‘Top 101 Producers of the Year’. Launching our own imprint, LOCO MOTIV recs, was a massive milestone that allows us to double down on our specific lane.

  1. Outside of music, what other passions do you have?

We both play golf and really appreciate how it forces you to disconnect from work. Being out on the course requires you to be mentally engaged and focused for four hours straight. Being surrounded by nature and like-minded people is incredibly rewarding.

  1. Who is your dream back-to-back/collaboration?

We’d love to be involved in a project with Diplo, Swedish House Mafia, or Calvin Harris. Whether it’s a collaboration as Mentum or working behind the scenes as writers and producers, that would be a dream come true.

  1. What can we expect from Mentum in 2026? More big tunes, we assume?👀

2026 is a massive turning point. After a decade in the industry, we’re finished with the “groundwork” phase and are fully focused on defining our lane: high-energy house and EDM with emotional gravity. You can expect music that supports a real, lasting connection – and yes, plenty of big tunes.

Finally, let’s set the scene: you’re playing the last set at your favourite club, everyone’s calling for ‘one more song’. What are you playing?

It would have to be ‘One More Time’ by Daft Punk! 😄
