Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s path from celebrated DJs to dominating the global electronic music scene has been on a constant, upward trajectory. Becoming the first ever duo to win the World #1 DJ’s crown at the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll, the pioneering brothers continue to stand strong and take centre stage amongst the ever-changing musical landscape. Their live combination of DJ sets and crowd-busting MCing has propelled them into global stars. Leading to the duo winning awards including ‘Best Breakthrough Act’, ‘Best European DJ’s’, ‘Best European DJ’ & ‘Best Artist Group’ at the IDMA’s, also garnering 2 x ‘Best Global DJ’ at the EMPO TV awards in Mexico, as well as ‘Best Big Room’ and ‘Best Music Video’ for their star-touting anthem ‘The Hum’. Receiving further recognition at home as double winners of the MTV EMA for ‘Best Belgian Act’, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike have grown to become of the most prominent dance music figures of modern times.
From iconic clubs like Amnesia, Ministry of Sound, Zouk, Green Valley and Ushuaïa Ibiza, where the duo holds a summer residency with their own party in partnership with Tomorrowland, to festival mainstages including EDC Las Vegas, EXIT festival, Electric Zoo, Air Beat One, Parookaville, UNTOLD, Sensation and Creamfields, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike possess an undeniably global appeal. This attraction in the live touring space as also led to the duo becoming a fixture on stages normally reserved for pop and rock stars, of which have included the UEFA Champions League Final in Madrid and Lollapalooza South America. However, it’s their position as the official mainstage residents and ‘Kings of Tomorrowland’ which has seen them grow to an unprecedented level of stature, playing their part in the incredible rise of the Belgian event that saw 360,000 revellers descend across 2 weekends for 2019 in celebration of the Tomorrowland’s 15 anniversary.
The launch of their annual December homecoming arena shows was another demonstration of power. Amassing a collective 67 million+ YouTube views across 4 major events, fans snapped up 60,000 tickets in just 60 minutes for their 2016 end of year show – a feat previously only managed by legendary names such as U2, Madonna, Coldplay, Beyoncé, and Michael Jackson. The 2018 edition of the boy’s homecoming spectacle was the 19th arena show the team had successful completed in 6 years in Belgium pulling in over 350,000 people, and welcoming A-list names such as Steve Angello and Hardwell to support them. Their arena concept has also seen sold-out shows in Mexico, UK and Germany, the latter seeing the duo smash the record for the most attendees at a solo DJ show in Germany playing to 45,000 fans at the World Club Dome Winter Edition show.
Picking up support from top industry figures like Beats 1’s Zane Lowe, BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong and Danny Howard, the boys have become a go-to act for major recording artists. Whether it’s remixing Coldplay, The Chainsmokers, Lady Gaga or scoring edits for Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, and Sean Paul, the merit of their successes ultimately boils down to their legions of devoted fans – and the figures say it all.
Noting 13 million Facebook likes, over 2.9 million Twitter followers, 4 million Instagram fans as well as more than 1 billion YouTube views and 14.6 million monthly Spotify listeners, the Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike phenomenon is a story that continues to unfold. Netting the #1 spot in their native Belgium going platinum with ‘The Hum’, their magic touch was repeated as their Ne-Yo collaboration ‘Higher Place’ spent 10 weeks atop of the Belgian singles chart and secured the #1 Billboard Dance Chart spot. This placing reoccurred with the release of their Diplo collaboration ‘Hey Baby’ and more recently the unstoppable duo saw their single ‘Selfish’ (featuring Era Istrefi) secure the #1 position in the Billboard Dance Chart.
An invite from Disney Records led to the brothers handling a rework to the iconic theme song for the fifth instalment of the blockbuster movie series ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. Working with Hans Zimmer on the film’s lead score ‘He’s a Pirate’, Dimitri & Mike added a big room flavour to the latest edition, ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales’. Summer 2017 also saw the David Guetta and Kiiara team up summer anthem ‘Complicated’, which amassed over 123 million streams on Spotify and 75 million YouTube views. The pair also joined forces with W&W on ‘Crowd Control’, the sonic representation of their iconic dance move that has seen countless artists get in on the act from The Chainsmokers, Skrillex, Steve Aoki and even Twenty One Pilots (during lollapalooza – where the brothers joined the famed alternative rock onstage after their own headline show).
In 2018 the brothers paired up with hip hop star Wiz Khalifa for the hit record ‘When I Grow Up’ and followed up the collab with another musical pairing working with Long Beach’s famed rapper Snoop Dogg on ‘Bounce. Amongst a cluster of big hitting records in 2019, 2 tracks grabbed the biggest headlines. From ‘Best Friends Ass’ with Paris Hilton, which featured a strong of celebrities in the music video most notably Kim Kardashian and was picked up by virtually every major entertainment outlet, to the All-Star line-up on one of the biggest songs of the summer, ‘Instagram’, which involved David Guetta, Afro Bros, Daddy Yankee and Natti Natasha. On last count the single had amassed over 16 million YouTube views with more than 31 million streams on Spotify. These releases add to an already impressive body of collaborative work that to date includes studio time with the crème de la crème of artists in Gucci Mane, Armin van Buuren, Ummet Ozcan, Martin Garrix, Vini Vici, Fatboy Slim, Steve Angello, Afrojack, Lil Jon and Kid Ink.
Never ones to slow down, their consistently excellent placing within the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll for 7 consecutive years including becoming the first DJ duo to take the crowning #1 spot, an impressive feat by anyone’s standards, the duo’s status continuing to be exemplified as the dynamic act retained their #2 position in this year’s standings for the 3rd year in a row.
